Located to Brisbane’s southeast, Mt Gravatt was one of the city’s biggest suburbs before being split up into three separate suburbs, namely Mt Gravatt East, Mt Gravatt South, now known as Wishart, and Upper Mt Gravatt. The hill of the same name, which is a major landmark, was named after Lieutenant George Gravatt in 1840, who commanded the Moreton Bay Settlement for a short period of two months in 1839. Electric trams used to ply the Mount Gravatt area between 1953 and 1969, taking residents directly into the CBD of Brisbane and running the length of Logan Road. These days, public transport is supplied by way of buses.
